Why is sleep so important for your memory?

Studies have shown that sleep is critical for memory in at least 3 different ways.


Without sleep, our brains are not primed to take in new information in school or at work, and with sleep after learning, our brains are unable to make neural connections with the information in order to store it for a long time.
